AX-58xB AXIOMET digital multimeters – measurements in compliance with the IEC standard

When we compare parameters of modern digital multimeters, we can be easily attracted with their measurement precision or powerful set of functionalities, but we totally forget about the most important thing – safety. The level of protection offered by a particular meter depends primarily on the type of cables insulation and on other factors described in the PN-EN61010 standard.

According to the PN-EN61010 standard, the safety category describes conditions for permitted use of a device:

• CAT I: for electronic measurements,
• CAT II: for single-phase energy receivers,
• CAT III: for 3-phase distribution systems,
• CAT IV: for measurements of 3-phase voltage in utility connections and installations outside of buildings.

Unfortunately, multimeters compliant with the CAT IV safety category are usually very expensive. Their manufacturers often equip them with numerous advanced functionalities, and hence their price is high. However, very often what we actually need is a robust design and convenience of use, not state-of-the-art functionalities.

The AX-582B, AX-585B, and AX-588B AXIOMET digital multimeters fully satisfy all these requirements. These are the cheapest AXIOMET multimeters which fulfill CAT IV requirements. Moreover, they are equipped with a shock-resistant holster and they are offered together with an optional soft case. These digital multimeters are solid and they are powered from a 9V battery (low battery power is signaled by the device.) What is more, AX-58XB AXIOMET multimeters are equipped with LCD backlit displays, thanks to which it is possible to use them at night and in dark spaces. They also have a high resistance threshold for continuity tests: 70Ω.

Other parameters are similar to those of other AXIOMET multimeters:

• AX-588B and AX-585B allow frequency, capacitance, and temperature measurements.
• AX-588B has enhanced range (up to 2GΩ) of resistance measurement.
• AX-585B allows for **TrueRMS** measurement. It also provides the most accurate readings thanks to a large, 4.5 digit display (the max. displayed value is 19999) with 32mm digit height.
• AX-582B allows for phase wire detection and, like AX-588B, for measurement of hFE parameter of transistors.
